More Than Just a Museum
Discover and experience West Virginia’s rich and unique history; its culture, people, and the beauty of the mountain state. The Heritage Towers Museum and Culture Center is West Virginia’s premier Black Culture and African Heritage facility. Located in downtown Charleston, West Virginia, the center promotes culturally-diverse activities through international exchange programs with museums, schools, universities and other institutions of learning.
Our artifacts and exhibits reflect and provide vital historical perspectives on African-American history in the mountain state. The museum exhibits take you through a timeline originating from the Kingdoms of Africa to the Appalachian coal country of West Virginia. Visitors to the museum learn about events, significant accomplishments, and contributions made by black people from West Virginia to the United States of America and the world at large. The center is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the communities we serve by sponsoring educational activities, opening avenues for international understanding and promoting community events to celebrate cultural diversity.
